Unlocking SAF Investment: What Will It Take to Reach FID?

The future of sustainable aviation hinges on more than ambition. To meet decarbonisation targets and drive real change, SAF projects need to move from planning to production, and that means crossing the final investment decision (FID) threshold.

But reaching FID is no small feat. Despite technical readiness and growing demand signals, SAF project developers face a complex landscape of financing challenges. The market is still defining what "bankable" looks like, and how to align technology selection, policy support, risk allocation, and corporate offtake strategies to meet investor expectations.

On 26 February at 2pm GMT, in collaboration with Johnson Matthey, we're bringing together a powerhouse panel to tackle one of the biggest bottlenecks to SAF scale-up: how to demonstrate strong economics and select the right technologies to secure capital and reach FID.

Whether you're involved in project development, investment, procurement, or policy, this is your chance to hear directly from the people shaping the next wave of SAF deployment.

Meet the speakers:

  • Anna Dialynas Davies, Renewable Fuels Lead, BloombergNEF

  • Jonathon Counsell, Group Sustainability Officer, IAG

  • Paul Ticehurst, MD of FT Liquids, Johnson Matthey

  • Alfonso Garcia de las Heras, Technical Advisor – Synthetic Fuel, Repsol

  • Urbano Troncoso Perez, Global Hydrogen Lead, Santander Investment Banking

  • Katie Lennon, Head of Strategy, Energy Transition, AXA XL Insurance
